From 1842 through the 1890s, extremely strong marijuana (then known as cannabis extractums) and hashish extracts, tinctures and elixirs were routinely the second and third most-used medicines in America for humans cannabis seeds (from birth, through childhood, to old age) and in veterinary medicine until the 1920s and longer. (See Chapter 6 on “Medicine,” and Chapter 13 on the “19th Century.”) As stated earlier, for at least 3,000 years, prior to 1842, widely varying marijuana extracts (buds, leaves, roots, etc.) were the most commonly used and widely accepted majority of mankind’s illnesses.

The 1893-1910 editions of Encyclopaedia Britannica indicate - and in 1938, Popular Mechanics estimated - that at least half of all the material that has been called linen was not made from flax, but from cannabis. Herodotus (c. 450 B.C.) describes the hempen garments made by the Thracians as equal to linen in fineness and that white widow feminized none but a very experienced person could tell whether they were of hemp or flax.” Although these facts have been almost forgotten, our forebears were well aware that hemp is softer than cotton, more water absorbent than cotton, has three times the tensile strength of cotton and is m any times more durable than cotton.

Attempts by various petitioners to have marijuana rescheduled have not been successful. Therefore, there is at least one extra layer (many States have their own laws modeled after the Controlled Substances Act (CSA), which add further complexity) for any investigator undertaking clinical trials with controlled substances cannabis seeds. In the case of research conducted under an Investigational New Drug Application (IND), recordkeeping requirements are exempt from the CSA but must be kept in accordance with the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act (FDCA). Under the FDCA, a sponsor or investigator must make its records concerning shipment, delivery, receipt, and disposition available for inspection and copying at DEA’s request.

In a survey looking at physicians’ choice of drugs to treat wasting, the first line choice of 80 percent of the care providers was megestrol with dronabinol being used by 54 percent of feminized marijuana seeds. Dronabinol was also the second line choice of most providers. Problems that have been identified with dronabinol are that patients feel “too stoned”; are unable to titrate their dose properly; note delayed onset of effect, prolonged duration of effect, or problems with malabsorption; and “not the same feeling as smoked marijuana.”

Vinciguerra and colleagues (1988) studied smoked marijuana in an open trial in 74 patients who previously had no improvement with standard antiemetic agents. Nearly 25 percent of patients who initially consented to participate later refused treatment citing bias against smoking, harshness of smoke, and preference for oral dronabinol. Of the remaining 56 patients, 18 (34 percent) rated it very effective and 26 (44 percent) moderately effective feminized seeds. Twelve (22 percent) noted no benefit. Sedation occurred in 88 percent, dry mouth in 77 percent, and dizziness in 39 percent. Only 13 percent were free of adverse effects.

There was also a clear dose-response relationship for sedation, mental clouding, and other central nervous system (CNS) related side effects. Because of sedation, the 20-mg dose was judged to be “of limited value for most patients.” The second study in 36 cancer patients compared placebo, 10, and 20 mg of 9-THC and 60 and 120 mg of codeine over a 7-hour observation period (Noyes et al. 1975b) cannabis seeds. Codeine 120 mg and 9-THC 20 mg were similar to each other and significantly superior to placebo for the sum of the pain intensity differences and total pain relief, while other pairwise contrasts were not significant. Relative potency analysis was not performed.

Impaired memory for recent events, difficulty concentrating, dreamlike states, impaired motor coordination, impaired driving and other psychomotor skills, slowed reaction time, impaired goal-directed mental activity, and altered peripheral vision are common associated effects (Adams and Martin 1996; Fehr and Kalant 1983; Hollister 1988a; Institute of Medicine 1982; Tart 1971, white widow feminized). With repeated exposure, varying degrees of tolerance rapidly develops to many subjective and physiologic effects (Fehr and Kalant 1983; Jones 1987). Thus, intensity of acute effects is determined not only by THC dose but also by past experience, setting, expectations, and poorly understood individual differences in sensitivity.

Since this report was not intended as a general review of the literature on marijuana and THC, only a few selected references from among the thousands that exist are cited. Each of the members in the Expert Group chose those references relevant to their own contributions to the report. Clinical Pharmacology of MarijuanaThe Pharmacology of Natural Products It is important to keep in mind that marijuana is not a single drug feminized cannabis seeds. Marijuana is a mixture of the dried flowering tops and leaves from the plant cannabis sativa (Agurell et al. 1984; Graham 1976; Jones 1987; Mechoulam 1973). Like most plants, marijuana is a variable and complex mixture of biologically active compounds (Agurell et al. 1986; Graham 1976; Mechoulam 1973).

“The effects here will be less pronounced during the initial stages than those from smoking. But as the minutes progress, the “hash eater’s” high may become far more overwhelming than anything that the smoker has ever experienced. This may be furthered by the fact that the eater does not get the same immediate signals which tell the smoker that he has had enough. So when he finally comes on, he may really come on-and still keep coming on.” “For any and all the above reasons, ingested cannabis is often more hallucinogenic than the smoke.” “One may eat ten times too much and still be eating more before the first effects of the high have even arrived for your cannabis seeds. If he does so, he may eventually lose consciousness for anywhere from 12 to 48 hours, depending upon how much was taken.”

“Then the Lord said to Moses, “Take the following fine spices: 500 shekels of liquid myrrh, half as much of fragrant cinnamon, 250 shekels of qhaneh-bosm, 500 shekels of cassia–all according to the sanctuary shekel–and a hind of olive oil. Make these into a sacred anointing oil, a fragrant blend, the work of a perfumer. It will be the sacred anointing oil.” Exodus 30:23 It is this term “qhaneh bosm”, or fragrant cane, that is the most remarkable of mistranslations found within the Bible. When it was rendered into Greek it became “calamus”, a common marsh plant that had no place in the sacred anointing oil of Yahweh. semi di cannabis. But so it has come down to us. In fact the Hebrew term is qhaneh bosm, or kaneh bosm. According to Rabbi Herschels??? Hebrew-English dictionary, such eminent scholars as Sula Benet, Weston LaBarre and the British journal New Scientist, what this term refers to is none other than cannabis. Indeed the “m” which ends the word is the Hebrew plural, so in the singular it reads as ‘kaneh bos” which doesn’t take a leap of faith to be understood for what it is. And this opens up a whole new world of interpretation of the Good Book. A very remarkable interpretation indeed…
